Folkestone: Biggins Wood is getting a makeover! After sitting empty for years, this old brickworks site is set to become a vibrant community hub.

They’re planning to build 77 new homes and some commercial spaces, which is fantastic news for the area. The council has already given the green light, so things are moving fast.

Wickhambreaux Developments Ltd will handle the commercial side, while Orbit Homes is teaming up with Chartway to create those much-needed homes.

Thanks to a government grant, they’ve done some cleanup work to prepare the site. The council bought this land back in 2016 for £1.5 million, but it took a while to get to this point.

Initially, they thought about building the homes themselves, but it turned out to be too costly. So, they decided to sell the land instead, which seems like a smart move.

While the exact sale price hasn’t been shared, the new homes will be all-electric and designed to be eco-friendly. Plus, there will be public spaces for everyone to enjoy.

These homes will be available for local folks on the council housing list, but they’re not taking applications just yet.

Council leader Cllr Jim Martin is excited about the benefits this project will bring, including new jobs and funding for other important projects.

Oliver Jolley from Chartway expressed his enthusiasm for the development, highlighting its importance for the community. Brian Nearney from Orbit Homes echoed that sentiment, emphasizing their commitment to sustainable development.
