Caroline Lucas, the former Green MP, receives her first honorary degree from Sussex University, celebrating her impactful career in politics.
At 64, she’s now an honorary doctor of laws, which is pretty cool. She previously earned a doctorate in English literature ages ago. Caroline expressed how honored she felt to be recognized by Sussex, especially after years of serving Brighton.
The ceremony took place at the Brighton Centre, part of a three-day graduation celebration. Over 2,000 students from all over the world are graduating, and it’s a lively atmosphere with thousands of guests joining in.
Sussex University’s vice-chancellor praised Caroline for her dedication to human rights and the environment. She’s been a strong voice on climate change and has inspired many students.
Caroline’s journey in politics is impressive. She was the only Green MP for 14 years and has been involved in various important causes. Even after stepping down, she’s still passionate about climate issues and is training to be an end-of-life doula.
Today, Sussex will honor more individuals, including a talented songwriter and an economist. It’s a great time for the university and the community!
