The old tax office in Canterbury has been revamped into 34 flats, including a stunning penthouse, attracting plenty of interest from buyers.
For years, it was where folks dealt with their tax issues, but now it’s getting a fresh start. The building has been transformed into 34 flats, including a fancy penthouse that costs a whopping £850,000 and even has its own rooftop garden.
Recently, the scaffolding came down, and wow, what a difference! John Walker from the Canterbury Society praised the new look, saying it’s a big improvement. He mentioned that it’s definitely better than what was there before.
With more people working from home, it makes sense to turn old office spaces into homes. The flats are now on the market, starting at £240,000 for a one-bedroom studio, and there’s already a lot of buzz around them.
The HMRC closed this office back in 2019, along with a few others, as they shifted their operations to Croydon. The building was sold for £2.6 million in 2022, and plans were set in motion to convert it into residential spaces.
Initially, the idea was to rent out the apartments, but they decided to sell them instead. Some of the flats are ready for viewing, while the two-bedroom penthouse is still being worked on.
These new apartments come with some perks too, like parking spaces, which is a rare find in the city. With a target of building over a thousand new homes each year in Canterbury, this project is a step in the right direction.
