The Forres Highland Games has secured £10,000 to upgrade their storage facility, ensuring a safer environment for their equipment.
Forres: The Forres Highland Games, a beloved local event, is celebrating a big win. They just got £10,000 from the Berry Burn wind farm Community Fund. This money will help them fix up their storage shed at Grant Park.
The roof of the shed has seen better days. It’s got an old asbestos cement roof that needs to go. The volunteers are excited about this funding because it covers about 40% of the total cost to replace it.
Fred Davidson, the president of the games, is thrilled. He mentioned how generous the award is and how much it’s appreciated. The plan is to safely remove the old roof and replace it with new insulated metal sheeting.
They’re also getting a little help from the Rafford Scottish Country Dancing Club, which donated £250. The rest of the funds will come from other sources or the committee’s savings.
Fred also said they’re open to more funding opportunities. Every bit helps! The committee has 16 trustees, but they’re always looking for more enthusiastic folks to join in.
Being part of the team is a blast, and many volunteers come back year after year. It’s all about creating one of the best Highland Games in Scotland, and the excitement is palpable.
With around 50 volunteers, plus judges and security, the event is a real community effort. They’re already gearing up for this year’s games on July 5, hoping for great weather.
