Ofsted’s recent report rates Foundation Nursery as inadequate, highlighting safety and behavior concerns.
Romford: A recent Ofsted inspection at Foundation Nursery revealed serious issues. The report, published after a December visit, rated the nursery as ‘inadequate’ across all assessment areas.
Inspectors found problems with education quality, behavior management, and leadership. They noted that risks to children were not properly assessed or addressed.
Specific concerns included open doors to unsafe areas and hazards in the outdoor play area. The nursery manager, Tami White, expressed disappointment with the report’s findings.
Ofsted reported that staff lacked understanding of how to manage risks to children’s safety. Some staff also struggled with safeguarding procedures.
Inconsistencies in supporting children’s behavior were also noted. Children often collided while riding toys and snatched toys from each other.
Staff responses to these behaviors were ineffective, leading to ongoing issues. The report highlighted that routine activities often became chaotic.
Other areas needing improvement included supporting children’s eating habits and individualized care for those with special needs.
Despite these issues, Ofsted acknowledged that children were happy and engaged in activities. They noted that staff interactions were generally kind and caring.
Ms. White stated that the nursery was surprised by the report. She believes it does not reflect the quality of care provided.
She mentioned that the door entry system, previously approved by Ofsted, was a main concern. The nursery has since relocated it and updated their policy.
Concerns about leaves in the outdoor area after a storm were also raised. Ms. White explained that leaves naturally accumulate due to large oak trees.
She was surprised that nurturing actions, like wiping children’s noses, were viewed negatively. Supporting children’s wellbeing is crucial, she emphasized.
The nursery is committed to addressing the feedback and improving. They thanked parents for their support and remain dedicated to providing a safe learning environment.
Facilities rated ‘inadequate’ will be re-assessed by Ofsted within six months.
