Residents in Ceiriog Valley are taking a stand against potholes by creating a humorous attraction to highlight the issue
Ceiriog Valley: Last week, locals put up signs and banners to promote their new attraction called “Pothole Land.” It’s a cheeky dig at Wrexham Council, highlighting the terrible state of the roads.
The potholes have been a real headache for residents, causing damage to their cars. Local councillor Trevor Bates shared that he spent around £600 on repairs recently. The signs jokingly claim to feature “two kilometres of award-winning potholes” with hardly any road left to spoil the fun.
According to Cllr Bates, the pothole situation has worsened after recent storms. He totally gets why residents are frustrated. He’s had his own car troubles, busting two springs and spending £300 each time. Many locals have taken it upon themselves to fill in the potholes, but some have never been fixed.
People are fed up with the lack of action. Cllr Bates mentioned that the council is stretched thin and can’t address all the potholes at once. He believes everyone thinks their potholes are the worst, and it’s just a sad reality. There’s a real need for more funding for road repairs.
Wrexham Council leader Mark Pritchard acknowledged the residents’ concerns. He pointed out that they have limited funds to spend on road repairs. The Welsh Government is offering some borrowing options, but there’s still a massive backlog of repairs needed.
Pritchard has seen the roads himself and agrees they’re in bad shape. He emphasized that they can’t fix every road at once and have to prioritize. He sympathizes with the residents and hopes for more funding to tackle the issue.
