The MoD faces backlash for spending £2.1 million on chauffeur-driven cars, raising concerns over military funding.
London: The Ministry of Defence (MoD) spent £40,000 weekly on chauffeur-driven cars. This adds up to £2.1 million for the year, a 45% increase.
That amount could pay the annual salary of 83 private soldiers. One trip from Chepstow to Inverness cost £4,500 for 1,060 miles.
Another round trip from Loughborough to Scotland cost £3,500. A £3,000 car also transported officials around the country.
William Yarwood from the TaxPayers’ Alliance called this spending a “pointless waste.” Experts warn the UK is vulnerable due to lack of military investment.
Former MP Tobias Ellwood said more awareness is needed about the UK’s defense vulnerabilities. The MoD blamed the previous government for these costs.
They claim to be committed to value for money and reducing waste. Meanwhile, concerns about military funding continue to grow.
