The Glasgow Film Festival is back with a thrilling lineup, featuring premieres and special events that promise to captivate audiences this February
Glasgow: The Glasgow Film Festival 2025 is kicking off on February 26 with the world premiere of “Tornado,” a survival thriller directed by John Maclean. It stars Tim Roth and was filmed right in Scotland.
Organizers shared the exciting program on Tuesday, highlighting UK premieres like “The Return” with Ralph Fiennes and Jessica Lange. There’s also an adaptation of “Long Day’s Journey Into Night” featuring Ed Harris.
James McAvoy, the Glasgow-born star, will be part of a live conversation event, reflecting on his impressive career. This festival is particularly special as it marks the last for Allison Gardner, who has been a key figure for over 30 years.
Allison expressed her excitement about the diverse lineup, saying it truly has something for everyone. She’s had countless magical moments and is grateful for her team’s hard work in making the festival a welcoming space.
This year’s festival will also showcase premieres with stars like Tilda Swinton. Scottish premieres include “The End,” a post-apocalyptic musical, and “Harvest,” a folk horror film set in the Middle Ages.
GFF25 will feature a special screening of the new Amazon thriller “Fear,” shot in Glasgow, ahead of its UK release. The festival wraps up on March 9 with the premiere of “Make It To Munich,” a documentary about a young footballer’s inspiring journey.
Isabel Davis from Screen Scotland highlighted the festival’s role in connecting local talent with global audiences. She also congratulated Allison on her remarkable legacy as she steps down.
Tickets for the opening and closing galas go on sale on January 22, with the full program available to the public starting January 27. You can grab them online or at the GFT Box Office.
