Lorraine Hargan, a Glasgow grandmother, expresses her frustration over increasing fly-tipping in her neighborhood, calling it an eyesore.
Glasgow: Lorraine Hargan, 74, has seen her fair share of fly-tipping in the 50 years she’s lived in the area. But she says it’s worse now than ever.
She told the Glasgow Times that rubbish is piling up everywhere. “I’ve seen washing machines and just bags of junk,” she said. It’s really become a mess.
“It’s an eyesore, it’s dreadful,” she added. Taxi drivers picking her up often comment on how terrible it looks. It’s the first thing they notice.
With grandkids visiting, Lorraine worries about their health. She doesn’t want them playing near all that rubbish.
She pointed out that streets like Kintra, Iona, and Columba have a bad reputation for fly-tipping. Photos show plastic buckets, torn bin bags, and even old furniture littering the streets.
She’s also concerned about rats. Lorraine has seen them nearby and fears they’ll move closer to her home. “I’m terrified they will come here,” she said.
When taxi drivers suggest she complain, she tells them it doesn’t help. She’s tried calling her local housing association, but they just sent her to Glasgow City Council.
Unfortunately, she claims the council doesn’t answer her calls when she tries to report the mess. Lorraine just wants her neighborhood to be clean and safe.
Glasgow City Council has been contacted for a response.
