Glasgow: Kids from St Teresa’s Primary School in Possilpark are making a difference. They’re sharing ideas to upgrade Bardowie Street Park.

On January 17, they met Colin Turnbull from Hawthorne Housing Co-Operation. He’s working with the council on the park plans. The kids showed him their ideas and even gave him a tour of their school.

Lisa McGeady, the acting principal teacher, emphasized the importance of community involvement. She wants the kids to feel connected and know their voices matter.

Some students wrote letters, while others created drawings. The P7 pupils even made 3D models of the park online. They were excited to contribute.

Lisa noted that the kids wanted to add a sensory area and a trampoline. Many students have additional support needs, so they aimed to make the park more inclusive.

The pupils learned about the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, especially Article 23. This article highlights the rights of disabled children to enjoy a full life and reach their potential.

Amelia Rose, a P6 pupil, said it’s important to use their voices for improvement. She wants to help everyone enjoy their rights, especially those who face challenges.

Colin Turnbull enjoyed meeting the students. He shared their ideas with the council, which is eager to see the plans.

He mentioned that the children put a lot of thought into making the park inclusive for all. The council is now looking for funding to support the project and is excited to see the kids’ ideas come to life.
