Crabshakk in Finnieston reopens with a fresh look and menu, focusing on chef-led dining and local seafood.
Glasgow: Crabshakk is back open in Finnieston. Chef Grace Murray shared what’s new. The restaurant has a fresh look and a new menu.
Grace said, “I feel dusty from all the banging and drilling, but it’s exciting. We’re almost ready for customers.” She hopes people will notice the improvements but still feel at home.
Some updates were overdue, but they waited to invest in the restaurant. Grace explained, “After opening our sister restaurant, we wanted to see if Glasgow could support both.”
Now, each location has its own vibe. The Botanics is great for celebrations, while the Wee Shakk offers a cozy family atmosphere.
Regulars will be happy to know the interior changes are minimal. However, the restaurant is now chef-led, with chefs cooking upstairs and serving customers at the bar.
Grace believes this connection enhances the dining experience. Starting today, the team will engage more with guests and introduce a bold new menu.
They’ve simplified the menu and removed the fryer section. “No more fish and chips or tempura squid,” Grace said. They’ll focus on fresh, daily-changing dishes.
They have a strong relationship with local fishmongers. This allows them to update the menu frequently based on what’s available.
Grace added, “It’s a sign of maturity for us. Our chefs have been here for years, and we trust each other to create fresh ideas.”
Some may find it odd for a seafood restaurant to drop fish and chips. But Crabshakk has always showcased the best of Scottish produce.
Don’t worry, the popular scallops in anchovy butter are still on the menu. Grace believes that focusing on quality will help them thrive.
Grace has been with Crabshakk for 14 years. She started as a part-time chef and worked her way up to general manager.
She said, “I wouldn’t have taken this role without a strong team. I want to see Crabshakk thrive for another 16 years.”
Grace is proud to be part of the food scene on Argyle Street. She appreciates the support from other local restaurants.
“We’re excited to welcome customers back this week,” she said. Crabshakk is located at 1114 Argyle Street in Finnieston, Glasgow.
