Glasgow enhances active travel with new bike lanes, upgraded sidewalks, and improved crossings, promoting sustainability and accessibility.
Plans include more cycle storage on streets and better crossings for people. New vehicles will maintain travel routes all year.
The South City Way connects Queens Park to the city, and Connecting Battlefield links to the hospital. Both projects finished this year, offering bike lanes, wide sidewalks, and lighting.
Byres Road’s first phase is done and upgraded sidewalks help cyclists. The rest is due this spring, while the Charing Cross project is also complete now.
The North-East route is almost ready and includes bike paths and better bus stops. Moreover, Barmulloch and Balornock have improved sidewalks.
Holland Street Avenue is almost done. Cambridge Street Avenue has bike lanes too, and Argyle Street West Avenue is being built, with completion expected this year.
Angus Millar wants a city-wide network. Projects are creating a fairer and more sustainable system.
Work starts next month on George the Fifth Bridge, with new crossings and cycle lanes planned. Construction begins on two more projects this year: Connecting Yorkhill and Byres Road’s phase two.
Last year, Glasgow finished vital projects that help walking, biking, and sustainable travel. The Govan-Partick Bridge completed in 2024.
The city finished the South City Way’s last part. They delivered the first part of Connecting Battlefield then. Northeast got travel upgrades and a new junction.
More progress is coming this year as projects are either starting or underway. This includes Yorkhill and Kelvingrove’s first phase and Byres Road’s second phase.
The city is designing future projects now, including future phases of key routes. They’re also working on a local program that aims to improve community travel.
