A new study shows surprising trends in British breakfast choices, including the rise of gravy and other unconventional condiments
London: A recent study by Best Western Hotels has stirred up some interesting breakfast chatter. It turns out that one in ten folks think gravy is a must-have for a proper fry-up. Can you believe that?
The research shows that our breakfast habits are changing. Alongside the classic ketchup, people are now reaching for horseradish, mayonnaise, and even sweet chilli sauce. It’s a whole new world of breakfast condiments!
Ketchup still reigns supreme, with about 25% of people choosing it as their go-to. Sweet chilli and horseradish are close behind, each loved by 14%. Gravy, mayonnaise, and hot honey are also making their mark, while brown sauce is lagging behind at just 7%.
But here’s a kicker: by 2025, we might see the fried egg disappear from our plates. Over 20% of people say they wouldn’t even consider adding one to their breakfast. Instead, some are opting for scrambled tofu. What a twist!
And where are people enjoying their breakfasts? Apparently, millions of Brits have admitted to munching away while on the loo. Almost 10% enjoy breakfast in bed, and 17% do it on their commute. It’s a breakfast revolution!
Despite all this talk about trendy avocado toast, the fry-up is still a beloved choice. A quarter of the nation digs into one every single day, and two in five have it at least once a week. Fry-ups are here to stay!
Tim Rumney, the CEO of BWH Hotels GB, emphasizes the importance of breakfast. He believes everyone deserves a unique breakfast experience, even if it doesn’t come with a gravy boat. And with their new Free Breakfast offer, they’re making it happen!
As part of their initiative, Best Western Hotels is declaring 2025 the year of the free breakfast, offering complimentary meals with every Rewards booking. Sounds like a tasty deal!
