A new study shows that 10% of Brits now see gravy as a breakfast must-have
This is a big change from the classic combo of bacon, eggs, and brown sauce. Ketchup still reigns supreme, with 25% of folks choosing it as their go-to condiment. But sweet chilli and horseradish are catching up, each with 14%, while mayonnaise is at 12%.
Brown sauce, once a breakfast staple, is now only loved by 7% of the population. And get this—22% of people say they’d skip the fried egg altogether by 2025. Instead, 21% would rather have scrambled tofu.
The study also looked at where people enjoy their breakfast. Surprisingly, 6% eat it on the toilet, and 9% prefer breakfast in bed. Others munch on the go, at their desks, or even on the sofa.
Despite the avocado toast trend, the fry-up is still a favorite. A whopping 25% of people indulge in one daily, and 41% at least once a week. Tim Rumney, the CEO of BWH Hotels, emphasized that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and everyone deserves a unique experience.
Best Western even shared a recipe for the ultimate breakfast gravy, featuring ingredients like onions, bacon, and a splash of black coffee for that extra flavor kick. They suggest saving bacon fat for cooking and adding a pinch of smoked paprika for a little something special. For more details on their Free Breakfast offer, check out their website.
