Drivers in Canterbury are facing severe delays due to multiple roadworks causing gridlock across the city
Canterbury: It’s a real mess out there! Drivers are stuck in traffic because of eight different roadworks happening all at once.
People are calling it “insanity” as they sit in their cars for over an hour just to go a short distance.
One major issue is a burst water pipe that shut down the A257 Littlebourne Road, leaving many without water and causing even more traffic chaos.
Now, drivers are being rerouted through Warwick Road and the Spring Lane estate, making a simple trip take forever.
To make matters worse, the road outside St Martin’s Hill Post Office is closed and won’t reopen until at least tomorrow evening.
But, it might take longer since they’re still trying to find the leak, according to local council member Alister Brady.
He mentioned that the A257 Littlebourne Road is a nightmare right now, with long delays piling up.
And if that’s not enough, there are temporary traffic lights on Sturry Road, adding to the frustration.
Drivers are facing long waits while gas company SGN does repairs, and they won’t be done until January 23.
Plus, there’s more roadwork coming up on the A-road near Vauxhall Road starting tomorrow, which will last for eight days.
Brady pointed out that six of the eight roadworks are emergency jobs by utility companies, which can close roads without prior notice.
Residents are really upset about all this. One person said it was a “90-minute tailback” this morning, and another complained about the traffic near St George’s roundabout.
It’s not just cars; buses are stuck too, unable to get into the station because of the jam.
People are calling it “madness” and saying it’s creating total chaos on the roads.
There are also temporary lights on the A28 roundabout and in St Dunstans Street for road marking improvements, which should wrap up tonight.
And don’t forget about the overnight closures in Thanington for some planned work. The local council is responsible for most of the roads, so they’ve been asked for comments on the situation.
