Gwent Police conducted a road safety operation in Pontypool, leading to two arrests for drug driving and multiple traffic offences.
Pontypool: So, Gwent Police were out and about recently, running a road safety operation called Operation Utah. They teamed up with the DVLA to keep things safe on the roads.
During this operation, they arrested two folks for drug driving. Not too shabby, right? Overall, they spotted 28 traffic offences while checking things out.
Police Constable Trott mentioned they were on the lookout for dangerous defects on vehicles. They checked things like tyres, window tints, and whether everyone had their driver’s licences sorted.
PC Trott, who works in Ystrad Mynach, said they were specifically targeting dodgy vehicles, both commercial and passenger ones. Safety first!
A spokesperson from the Gwent Police Operations and Support team shared that they checked 39 vehicles in total. They issued 28 reports for various offences and even prohibited four vehicles for being in a dangerous state.
Some of those vehicles were fixed right there and allowed to leave, while others were seized for not having tax or insurance. They even caught one driver breaking the rules on driving hours.
All in all, it was a busy day for the police, and they’re doing their best to keep the roads safe for everyone.
