Fareham: So, Hampshire County Council is thinking about shutting down the Stubbington Study Centre. They want to build a new specialist children’s home there instead.

This means all the fun outdoor learning activities that kids enjoy at the centre would have to stop. It’s a bummer, especially for schools in North Hampshire that rely on those residential visits.

They announced this plan on January 14 and are asking for feedback from schools and the community. They want to wrap things up at the centre by September.

Now, the council says they need a new home because the current one is pretty old and can only take in 10 kids. The new place would be modern and could help 18 kids, which they say is necessary to meet the growing demand for care.

But not everyone is on board with this idea. A petition to save the study centre got nearly 5,000 signatures in just two days after it launched on January 15.

Laura Jane Mcvinnie, who started the petition, expressed how important the centre is. She said it’s not just a place; it’s a tradition that has impacted so many lives over the years.
