David Cotton, also known as ‘Big Dave’, has been sentenced to 18 years for multiple sexual offences against children.
Portsmouth: David Anthony Cotton, 60, from Leigh Park, was found guilty of 28 sexual offences involving ten victims, with incidents dating back to the late 1970s.
After a lengthy investigation, he faced serious charges, including indecent assault and sexual activity with minors.
Despite denying everything, a jury at Portsmouth Crown Court convicted him after a five-week trial. The judge described him as a dangerous offender.
Yesterday, he was sentenced to 18 years in prison, plus an additional five years on license. He’ll also be on the sex offenders register for life.
Detective Constable Hollie Shelton expressed relief at the verdict, noting the bravery of the victims who came forward. She hopes this outcome encourages others to report similar crimes.
While this sentence can’t erase the past for the victims, it’s a step towards justice, ensuring Cotton can’t harm anyone else.
