Hampshire police are stepping up their game, destroying over 100 e-scooters and bikes to tackle illegal use and crime in the area
Hampshire: The police are really cracking down on illegal e-scooters and bikes. They’ve just crushed over 100 of them as part of a big operation.
This move is all about tackling the rise of these vehicles being used for crime. It’s been a growing issue, with many folks using them recklessly.
These e-scooters and e-motorbikes have been linked to serious crimes and accidents. It’s a real danger for everyone on the road.
Last year, the police commissioner signed a deal to give officers the power to destroy these vehicles if they’re involved in crime. It’s called Operation Crush, and it’s already showing results.
In 2024 alone, they seized 105 vehicles, a big jump from 41 the year before. Most of these were e-scooters, and they’ve all been destroyed to keep them out of the wrong hands.
While e-scooters aren’t legal on the roads, the police are focusing on those used in crimes or dangerous driving. Some of the seized ones were even involved in accidents or used by riders under the influence.
Police Sergeant Jamie Dobson mentioned that this new power helps them stop repeat offenders. It’s a solid step in fighting the rise of these vehicles in criminal activities.
PCC Donna Jones has heard the public’s concerns and made it clear: if you’re using an e-scooter illegally, you’ll face the music. They’re serious about this crackdown.
