A section of Hanbury Road will close for eight weeks for sewer upgrades, causing diversions and some expected delays for drivers and pedestrians.
Pontypool: Starting Monday, February 10, a part of Hanbury Road will be closed for eight weeks. This is to let Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water improve the sewerage system.
The closure will affect both directions between the Clarence Corner roundabout and Glantorvaen Road. So, if you’re driving, expect some delays and a traffic diversion via the A4043.
Residents and businesses on Hanbury Road will still have access, and emergency services can get through too. There will also be alternative routes for pedestrians.
The Civic Centre and the Glantorvaen Road car park will remain open, but it’s a good idea to use other car parks to ease congestion in the town center.
Just a heads up, the toilets on Hanbury Road and the bus stops at the town hall will be closed during this time. But don’t worry, you can find public toilets at the Pontypool Indoor Market, Pontypool Park, and the Active Living Centre.
If you rely on buses, check out the Stagecoach website or their app for updates on service changes. You can also follow @StagecoachWales on X for live info.
The council is in touch with schools that might be affected by the closure. Councillor Joanne Gauden mentioned that this work is crucial due to a capacity issue with the sewerage network that could impact residents and future projects.
Last month, the cabinet decided to use funds from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to cover these improvements as part of a broader plan to enhance the town center.
