Eric Morecambe’s iconic glasses sold for a whopping £20,000 at auction, showcasing the enduring love for the legendary comic.
Harpenden: Recently, a fascinating auction took place featuring items from the late Eric Morecambe’s life. It was a big deal, especially since it happened about ten months after his widow passed away.
His famous glasses, which everyone associates with his comedic style, sold for an impressive £20,000. Alongside them, his beloved pipe and some classic photos were also up for grabs.
Before the auction, his glasses and pipe were on display, drawing a lot of attention. Charles Hanson from the auction house was really excited about how well everything sold.
He mentioned that the results showed just how much people still love Eric Morecambe. The auction featured a variety of items, including a tailcoat, trousers, and even a watch.
One of the highlights was his OBE medal, which went for £11,000, way above what they expected. Plus, a special award for his performances sold for £4,400.
There were also some unique pieces like a painting of him and his ventriloquist dummy, which fetched good prices. A personal letter from King Charles III even sold for £2,500!
The auction took place over two days, with 700 lots available. It’s been over 40 years since Eric passed away, but his legacy is still very much alive.
