Harwich: Aiysha Courtier, 26, rescued her dog Barley from a kill shelter in Romania last November. Barley was just 7 months old and on the euthanasia list when Aiysha found him.

Barley has made a huge impact on Aiysha’s family. She has three children with autism, and her husband struggles with severe mental health issues. Barley has become their therapy dog, providing comfort during tough times.

Aiysha chose to adopt a rescue dog to help one in need. She believes in helping those who have had a rough start in life, whether they are people or animals.

Since January 27, Barley has been very ill. He has been lethargic and in pain. Aiysha rushed him to the vet, where they suspect he has meningitis. Barley has been in three vet hospitals recently.

Currently, he is in a specialist hospital for monitoring and MRIs. Aiysha and her family have maxed out their credit cards and borrowed money from friends and family to cover the costs.

Despite their efforts, they still don’t have enough to pay for Barley’s treatment and recovery. He will need long-term medication, and there’s a risk of relapse with meningitis.

Aiysha is asking the public for donations to help cover Barley’s medical expenses. Any leftover funds will go to The Paw Project UK, the charity that rescued him. To donate, visit https://gofund.me/5d35ee77.
