Romford: Let’s take a look at some historic photos of lost swimming pools in Havering. These pools have been replaced or are no longer in use.

One notable pool was the “wonder” pool in Havering-atte-Bower. It’s now a care home.

The Romford Public Baths on Mawney Road opened in 1900. The local council built it after much discussion. It had modern facilities for its time.

The baths were upgraded in 1934 but were demolished in 1975 due to high repair costs. A new leisure center took its place.

Harold Hill Swimming Pool opened in May 1966. It was one of the first big projects by Havering Council.

Designed by L.C. Dando, it was a championship-standard pool. Sadly, it was demolished in 2001, and a new leisure center opened in 2005.

Hornchurch Swimming Pool opened on December 8, 1956, with a special ceremony. It expanded into Hornchurch Sports Centre in 1987.

A new sports center was approved in 2018, with construction starting in 2019. It will feature modern pools and fitness facilities.

The Havering Court Wonder Pool opened in 1936. It was known for its beauty and stayed open until midnight.

Unfortunately, it closed in 1939 due to the war and never reopened. It was later replaced by a care home.
