Captain Richard Kirkby and his crew raised funds for Teignmouth RNLI, showcasing their dedication to supporting local lifesaving efforts
Teignmouth: Captain Richard Kirkby and his crew have done something pretty amazing. They gathered £2,789 from spare change and donations while sailing around the world for three years. They’ve been to some beautiful places like the Caribbean and the Mediterranean.
Over 49 crew members pitched in, along with family and friends who also donated. When they visited Teignmouth to hand over the money, they got a special tour of the Lifeboat Station.
Andy Teed, a volunteer visits officer, showed them around the boathouse. It was a cool time to visit since it was one of the lifeboat crew’s training evenings. They even got to see the Atlantic 85 lifeboat, named Claude and Kath, launch for a practice run.
Richard was really grateful for the warm welcome and said it was inspiring to see the volunteers’ dedication. He mentioned that he and his crew plan to keep fundraising and hope to donate again soon.
Wendy Richards Wood, who heads up volunteer fundraising, presented Richard and his crew with a certificate to thank them for their generosity. She expressed her gratitude on behalf of all the volunteers at Teignmouth RNLI.
Andy Lilburn, the lifeboat operations manager, was also there and noted how this donation would help the volunteers continue their lifesaving work at sea.
Richard, who has a family home in Teignmouth, felt thrilled to support the RNLI and raise awareness about the vital work they do for the community.
