Gillian McRobie is set to trek the Great Wall of China to raise funds for Highland Hospice, aiming for a total of £200,000
Gillian, who’s 55, has been with the hospice for three years. Before that, she worked at Dr Gray’s Hospital and with Macmillan. She’s passionate about being more than just a nurse; she wants to be part of the hospice’s bigger story.
She loves the community feel at the hospice, where staff, patients, and volunteers all come together. Gillian even signed up as a volunteer to help with events. Now, she’s thrilled to be part of this major fundraiser.
The trek is set for April 11 to 19 next year, but first, they have to raise funds. They’re kicking things off with a China Ball at the MacDonald Drumossie Hotel on March 1. There’ll be Chinese food, music, and fun auctions.
Gillian is excited about the trek, not just for the adventure but for the camaraderie with her team. She’s lucky to see firsthand how the funds help patients and families in the Highlands.
She’s training hard, planning to hike Ben Wyvis monthly. A few blisters are a small price to pay for such a worthy cause. The hospice’s service is incredible, and she’s eager to do her part.
The China Ball will feature music from John B’s Daughter and entertainment from TFX Performing Arts Academy. Tickets are £65, and you can book tables for groups. For tickets, email e.nicol@highlandhospice.org.uk.
