Brown-Forman confirms layoffs at Glenglassaugh Distillery due to a merger with BenRiach, but production will resume later this year.
Portsoy: Brown-Forman has announced some layoffs at Glenglassaugh Distillery. This comes after their merger with BenRiach Distillery.
A production operator, Tijay Salhotra, shared on Instagram that he was laid off. He mentioned that production would restart later this year.
He expressed gratitude for his time at Glenglassaugh and thanked everyone who supported him on social media.
Brown-Forman’s spokesperson, Elizabeth Conway, clarified that the distillery isn’t closing. They are adopting a shared production model with BenRiach.
This model will include periods of production and some silent seasons. It aims to optimize resources across both distilleries.
Conway also mentioned that the layoffs were a result of this new model. The company values the contributions of those affected and will support them.
Brown-Forman remains committed to producing high-quality whiskies and appreciates the support from customers worldwide.
Since acquiring Glenglassaugh in 2016, they have launched new single malts, including Sandend and Portsoy.
Glenglassaugh, located on the Moray Firth coast, has a rich history dating back to 1874. It has faced closures and reopenings over the years.
In 2017, Brown-Forman purchased BenRiach Distillery Company for about £285 million, which included Glenglassaugh.
Recently, they announced plans to cut 12% of their global workforce and close their cooperage in Louisville, Kentucky.
