Construction of the £14.5 million Hounsome Fields Primary School nears completion, aiming for a September opening to accommodate 420 students.
The school cost £14.5 million. It’s located on the Hounsome Fields site, and they plan to open the school in September.
This school meets a need for more places. It will hold 420 kids from ages four to eleven. Eight places are for kids needing extra help. Hampshire County Council approved the plans for it last year, specifically in September.
The site is near the A30 Winchester Road and across from a golf course project. They are building 1,000 homes there too. People worry about kids’ safety. The A30 has a 50 mph speed limit.
They suggested a safe crossing point to help people walking or biking there. It lets kids reach the school easily. They can also get to other community places.
The school could expand later, potentially holding 630 students total. But this depends on future needs, and funding will also have to be available.
This new school is special, as it’s a Climate Change Pilot project. They designed it to be carbon neutral by 2050. The design also handles overheating and flooding well.
The council thinks they will hire 47 staff, including 19 teachers.
The school has 14 classrooms, a music and drama studio, three group rooms and a library. They will have play areas and two playing fields. The staff car park has 40 spaces.
