The ERYC cabinet approved funding for housing to support individuals displaced by coastal erosion. This Skipsea housing project is set to receive £800,000, and Broadacres Housing Association will oversee its management.

This funding originates from Defra, a government department, as part of the Changing Coast East Riding project. The council initially received £15 million for this initiative in 2022, which is connected to a larger national program managed by the Environment Agency.

Located in Skipsea, the new houses will replace existing farm buildings. The development will feature a mix of two and three-bedroom homes available for rent or part-ownership.

East Yorkshire’s coastline is experiencing rapid erosion, with some areas losing up to 4.5 meters annually. The Skipsea project addresses this issue by providing much-needed social housing and helping people remain within their community.

Priority for these houses will be given to those at risk from coastal erosion. These homes are intended for permanent residents, showing a commitment the Council upholds.
