A new book reveals Dominic Cummings’ surprising support for Jeremy Corbyn’s rise.
London: Dominic Cummings wanted to help Jeremy Corbyn become prime minister. This claim comes from a new book about the Labour Party.
Before the 2019 election, Cummings believed Corbyn could push Brexit through. He thought this would hurt the Conservatives in the long run.
The book, “Get In,” reveals Cummings met with Corbyn’s communication team. They discussed a plan for Corbyn to become PM while the Conservatives fell apart.
Cummings thought Corbyn could unite Labour and run a strong campaign. He believed this would focus on funding for the NHS and public services.
Interestingly, Cummings was willing to set aside his differences with Corbyn. He wanted to avoid a second Brexit referendum and ensure the UK left the EU.
He suggested that Corbyn should support Theresa May’s withdrawal deal. Cummings believed this would split the Conservative Party and lead to May’s resignation.
In the book, one of Corbyn’s aides shared his hopes for a left-populist campaign. Cummings also texted about the potential for a government collapse.
Eventually, Corbyn backed a second referendum, and Cummings joined Boris Johnson. He then used the same strategy to shape the Conservatives as a pro-Brexit party.
The 2019 election ended badly for Labour, leading to Keir Starmer’s leadership. Johnson’s downfall followed, marking a significant shift in UK politics.
