A woman’s house was hit by a double-decker bus. Helen Jones saw it coming toward her home.

Helen lived on Mansfield Road in Underwood. She was in her living room during the crash, which happened around 7:30 in the morning.

Hearing crashing sounds, Helen and her husband, Anthony, ran outside to help the bus driver. Helen saw the bus heading straight for them and told her husband to move quickly, though everything felt like slow motion.

They tried talking to the driver, who was shaken up. Other people were also at the scene. They called 999 for emergency help and then helped the driver off the bus. The extent of the damage to the house was unknown at that time.

Helen believes a post prevented the bus from hitting the next house. She lives there with her family and two dogs, and they are now back home. A surveyor deemed it safe to stay there. Helen thanked her neighbors for their support. The bus usually carries children to school.

Luckily, nobody else was on the bus that day, and her son was also gone because of his exams. She is thankful nobody was badly hurt. They think the driver is doing okay. The bus belonged to Nottinghamshire County Council.

It was bus number 416 and served Underwood children. Nottinghamshire County Council hasn’t yet released a statement. Paramedics responded quickly to the scene. East Midlands Ambulance Service got the call at 7:29 AM and sent two ambulances and one paramedic. They transported one person to the hospital.

Nottinghamshire Police arrived on Mansfield Road at 7:27 AM, responding to reports of a bus crashing into a house. There were no passengers on board. The bus driver was quickly taken to the hospital, where it was determined that his injuries were not life-threatening. The road reopened around 12:15 PM.
