Cream o’ Galloway defends its decision to relocate production to Yorkshire, addressing community concerns and emphasizing brand commitment.
Gatehouse of Fleet: Cream o’ Galloway is facing criticism after announcing a move to Yorkshire. The owners, Brymor Ice Cream, will shift production from their original location to Masham in North Yorkshire.
This decision upset many locals. Some expressed disappointment, saying it won’t be the same brand anymore. The managing director, Paul Hodgson, responded to these concerns in a statement.
Hodgson explained that they took over the business in January 2024. They aimed to save the brand and jobs while ensuring a sustainable business model. He acknowledged the sensitivity of the situation but emphasized their commitment to the brand and community.
He noted that the manufacturing equipment was outdated and the site needed significant investment. The outdoor play area was closed and unsafe. These issues made it clear that a change was necessary for a viable future.
Hodgson expressed excitement about the brand’s future. He recognized the strong affection for Cream o’ Galloway Ice Cream and urged everyone to embrace the changes as part of business and society.
