Ilkley Carnival will help Ben Rhydding Sports Club raise funds for flood prevention, benefiting thousands of users and the community.
Ilkley: Ben Rhydding Sports Club is excited to receive support from Ilkley Carnival. They were chosen from over 20 applicants to help raise funds for flood prevention. This is a big deal for the club, especially in its 125th year.
Robin Snook from the club expressed gratitude for being recognized as the main beneficiary for 2025. The club has faced challenges due to climate change and flooding, impacting many users.
After the severe floods in 2015 and 2022, the club invested in flood gates. However, they now need replacing. They also lost their flood insurance after the last floods damaged their hockey pitch.
In 2022, the club started a costly flood prevention project for their playing surfaces. They have spent £50,000 so far, with help from local councils and generous members.
With over 900 members aged 6 to 90, the club serves various sports and community groups. All funds from the carnival will go back into the club to protect its facilities for future generations.
Since 2012, Ilkley Carnival has raised nearly £150,000 for local charities. In 2024 alone, they raised over £22,000 for good causes.
Andrew Stacey, the carnival chair, believes this year’s event will be one of the best. It will highlight Ilkley’s cultural contributions and support local organizations.
He emphasized that the carnival’s success means more help for local causes. Every volunteer group receives a donation from the profits, ensuring the event continues to grow.
