The Veterans Festival in Petersfield brought together resources and support for local veterans, creating a vibrant community atmosphere.
Petersfield: The first-ever Veterans Festival was a hit at the Festival Hall on January 24. It was buzzing with energy and excitement.
The festival focused on important issues veterans face, like health and jobs. It aimed to connect them with resources and support.
Megan Lloyd, who served in the British Army for 20 years, came up with the idea. After a tough transition to civilian life, she found her calling as a caseworker.
She teamed up with the Royal British Legion and local councils to make this festival happen. Megan hoped it would inspire others to create similar events.
Before the festival, she worried about attendance. But she thought even one veteran finding help would make it worthwhile. And it turned out to be a success!
There were over 35 stalls, showcasing everything from the British Legion to NHS services and veteran charities. It was a great way to connect.
Corporal Louis, a therapy dog, was a big hit with everyone. He brought smiles and comfort to the guests.
Cllr Chris Paige, from the Royal British Legion, mentioned how people came from as far as South West London. He hopes this festival can inspire others across the country.
They had been planning for over a year, and it all came together thanks to Megan’s vision and shared experiences with others.
Even local MP Greg Stafford showed up to support the armed forces. The event highlighted Bordon’s strong military connections.
Veterans shared stories from their time in service, recalling both serious moments and funny memories. It was a heartwarming gathering.
