Lichfield is facing a fly-tipping crisis as authorities investigate a massive waste dump that blocked access to local homes and businesses
Lichfield: A huge pile of rubbish, reportedly 10 feet high, was dumped on Watery Lane. This happened late Sunday night into early Monday morning.
The video footage is pretty shocking. It shows all sorts of junk—plastic, piping, cardboard, and even household items. It’s a real mess!
This rubbish blocked access for homes and businesses. The Lichfield District Council is on the case and thinks two trucks might have been involved.
Jack Twomey, the council’s environmental protection manager, mentioned they have some CCTV footage. It looks like two vehicles were used, but they’re still checking for more evidence.
He estimated it took about 30 seconds to a minute to dump all that waste on a busy road. They’re following up on several leads to catch those responsible.
Contractors with a digger cleared the road, so access was restored by the morning of January 21. But they need help!
Environmental Health officers are asking drivers who were in the Wood End Lane area during that time to check their dashcam footage. If anyone has info about the dumpers or the waste, they should call the council at 01543 308000.
People can also share photo and video evidence through the council’s online portal for reporting fly-tipping. Let’s hope they catch these culprits soon!
