Bollard repairs on Helena Road face delays. A missing bollard allows cars onto the Waterfront, causing noise. A planter offers a temporary fix.
People living there were annoyed. Damaged bollards let cars drive onto the Waterfront. Drivers made noise late at night, “honking.”
Turns out, the council didn’t order all the parts. One bollard closest to Waterfront chains is still missing, meaning cars might still sneak onto the Waterfront.
Paul West told Alan Mison about it. West is in charge of highways for the council. He promised they’re checking why they missed the bollard and want to learn from this.
West said they’ll put a planter there. It’s just temporary, for nighttime and this will stop cars and address the noise issue. However, a real bollard is coming, but it takes time.
The new bollard could take four weeks to arrive. Residents heard the damaged bollard wasn’t going to be replaced. Workmen at the site told them that.
They installed five new bollards recently. There’s still a gap by the chains, though, so cars can still drive through without the planter and people are worried.
The highways people understand people’s annoyance. They sped up the bollard project, which was planned for March 2025. Now, they need one more bollard.
They ordered the missing bollard and hope to install it soon. Meanwhile, the planter blocks cars and also reduces the noise for everyone.
