Holloway’s Auctioneers in Banbury saw impressive sales, totaling £9,740, with notable items like antique furniture and unique jewellery.
Two 18th-century oyster veneer chests of drawers were the stars. One sold for £3,600, and the other for £2,500, even with some changes made to them.
Jasper Marsh from Holloway’s said these chests show how much people love fine furniture.
The auction took place in Oxfordshire. Even with some modifications, these pieces caught the eye of collectors and dealers.
Other notable items included a Queen Anne period wall mirror. It was originally under-priced but sold for £660 after being consigned to auction.
A micro mosaic scarab pendant from around 1860 also drew attention. It was likely made in Rome and is a beautiful example of Etruscan revival style.
Various furniture pieces were auctioned too. One sold for £320, well above its £100 estimate.
A 9ct yellow gold Victorian “gate” bracelet also sold for £360, exceeding its £120 estimate. It features a heart-shaped charm, symbolizing Victorian ideals.
A rare Sarcar coin watch, gifted by the Shah of Iran in 1970, was another highlight. It sold for £2,300, far above its £1,000 estimate.
Jasper noted that the jewellery section was a true highlight of the sale.
Collectors are eager for items that are beautiful and carry historical significance.
The auction results show that buyers are willing to invest in quality items, no matter their size.
Holloway’s is preparing for its next auction on February 19, expecting even more exceptional items to attract collectors and dealers.
