Jim Carver opens up about his negative experiences with Marc Bayliss, highlighting the treatment of Cllr Alan Amos and his own resignation from the Conservatives
Worcester: So, Jim Carver, a former Conservative councillor, has been pretty vocal about his time in politics. He recently shared that he left the party because of how Marc Bayliss, the city council leader, treated him.
Carver, who’s 55, felt compelled to speak out after seeing how Cllr Alan Amos was treated by their former Conservative colleagues. It seems like he’s really upset about the whole situation.
Now, Bayliss has some supporters, like Chris Rimmell, who used to be the chairman of the Worcester Conservative Association. Rimmell thinks the criticism against Bayliss is part of a bigger plan to undermine him.
Interestingly, Carver posted a photo on social media with Cllr Amos and others, using a hashtag that hinted at revenge. But he insists it was just a celebration of Amos’s election win.
Amos, who was a city councillor and a county councillor, recently resigned from the Conservatives, saying he faced nasty online abuse from party members. This marks a significant change since he was the last Conservative on the Worcester City Council.
Carver, who used to be an MEP, stepped down from the Conservatives in February 2022, just months after being elected. He initially said it was for new job opportunities but now admits there was more to it.
He’s not shy about sharing his thoughts on Bayliss, calling him unfit for public office. Carver expressed disappointment over how Bayliss treated Amos, who he believes is a valuable councillor.
Reflecting on his own resignation, Carver wishes he had been more open about his reasons. He recalls how Bayliss came to his home, pleading for him to reconsider after he resigned.
Now, Carver feels much happier away from the political scene, focusing on local volunteer work instead. He’s baffled by how Bayliss has pushed away experienced members like Amos, suggesting that life’s too short for all this negativity.
We reached out to Bayliss for his side of the story, but he chose not to comment.
