John Swinney addresses concerns over Cream o’ Galloway’s relocation to Yorkshire, emphasizing support for affected workers
Masham: So, here’s the scoop. Cream o’ Galloway, the beloved Scottish ice cream brand, is packing its bags and moving to Yorkshire. They were bought by Brymor last year, and now they’re setting up shop outside Masham.
The company says this move will help them get their hands on some shiny, new equipment. But not everyone is thrilled about it. Ruth Watson, who heads up Keep Scotland the Brand, is pretty upset. She thinks it’s a bit cheeky to keep the Scottish brand while moving production south.
In Holyrood, South Scotland MSP Emma Harper brought this up with the First Minister. She’s worried about the local folks who might lose their jobs. Emma’s not holding back, saying it’s a big letdown for the community.
She asked if the Scottish Government would step in to help anyone who loses their job. Swinney responded, saying he regrets the decision and that the government will do what it can to support those affected.
He mentioned they’ll talk to Cream o’ Galloway to see if there’s a way to keep some production in Scotland. The company reassured everyone that they’ll still distribute their ice cream from Twynholm, near Castle Douglas, to keep serving their loyal customers in Scotland and beyond.
