Keighley: There’s a fresh initiative called Our Patch that’s all about bringing people together through creativity. It’s a cool project that connects artists, community groups, and residents across the area.

Imagine music sessions in care homes or Bollywood dance classes at local centers. Sounds fun, right? This project is backed by the National Lottery Community Fund and the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, so it’s got some solid support.

Since last August, Bradford 2025 has been testing this out with various organizations, including Keighley Creative. Phil Chamberlain from the National Lottery Community Fund shared how proud they are to support this collaborative effort, aiming to boost grassroots arts and create a lasting impact.

Gemma Hobbs, the community connector for Keighley and Ilkley, emphasizes that this program celebrates the everyday beauty of our communities and the role of artists in enhancing that spirit.

Plus, the launch of Our Patch coincides with DRAW!, featuring artist David Hockney. People are encouraged to draw what they find beautiful around them, inspired by Hockney’s iconic designs.

You can share your drawings online or on social media with the hashtag #bradford2025 until January 31. Each month, selected works will be showcased on the Bradford 2025 website, leading up to a big exhibition at the end of the year.

Shanaz Gulzar, the creative director of Bradford 2025, believes there’s creativity in every corner of Bradford. By placing artists in the heart of communities, they aim to involve locals in the UK City of Culture.

So, if you’re in Keighley, why not get involved? It’s a great chance to express yourself and connect with your neighbors!
