A local resident advocates for preserving buildings for community use, highlighting the need for an arts center and gallery in Winchester.
Winchester: A local resident is really pushing for the city to keep some important buildings. They believe we need an arts and crafts center and an art gallery. It’s a shame that collections from the county and city councils just sit around and don’t get shown to the public.
They think Coitbury House could be the perfect spot for this. If money is the issue, let’s talk about what’s needed to make it happen. Craftspeople are willing to pay rent, and art exhibitions can charge an entrance fee. There’s a chance to make some income to keep the place running.
But it’s not just about Coitbury House. Remember when River Park Leisure Centre was given to Southampton University? It feels like decisions are made behind closed doors, and we can’t let that happen again. We need these buildings for the community, not just to be sold off without a second thought.
