Romsey: There’s a lot of chatter about the local elections being postponed this year, and folks are not happy about it. Hampshire County Council is one of the councils thinking about this delay, and it’s raising some serious eyebrows.

People are worried that saying it’s just a “postponement” is a bit of a stretch. I mean, can we really believe that a big change like this can be sorted out in just a year? It feels more like they’re just pushing the problem down the road, and we might end up with no elections at all.

It’s been five years since the last council was elected, and that’s a long time. A lot has changed since then. New voters are coming in, and sadly, some folks have passed away. Plus, with all the financial mess the council is in, many people are itching for a change.

Honestly, it feels a bit like the tactics you see from dictators who want to hold onto power. We need to have our say as voters, and the best way to do that is to hold the elections as planned in May. That way, the new council can start fresh with a clear mandate.

It’s super important that we see all the details about any changes they want to make. We should have the chance to vote on something that could really change how our local government works.

So, if you feel strongly about this, make sure to let the council know. It’s crucial that we push for these elections to happen and share our thoughts on any proposed changes to our local government.
