Seamus Logan expresses frustration over the UK government’s refusal to reconsider new farm tax measures affecting many farmers
Aberdeenshire: Seamus Logan, a local MP, is really upset with the UK government. He thinks their response to concerns about new farm tax rules is just plain disappointing.
He reached out to the Chancellor about changes to Agricultural Property Relief and Inheritance Tax, but the reply didn’t address the worries of farmers at all.
Logan pointed out that the new rules could hit around 2,500 farms each year, not just the 520 the government claims. He feels the data they used is outdated and doesn’t reflect the current situation.
Farmers in his area are worried these tax changes could force them to sell their farms or make it hard to pass them down to their kids. Many of these farms have been in families for generations.
Logan mentioned that even though these farms have valuable equipment, they often struggle financially. He wrote to the Chancellor back in November, hoping for a change, but the response he got didn’t help at all.
He believes the government should pause these measures until they sort out the conflicting data and really listen to the farmers’ concerns.
