Morley College London secures funding to enhance its iconic Waterloo Centre, improving facilities for adult learners.
London: Morley College London is getting a big upgrade. The government just gave it a £5.8 million grant for renovations. This money will help improve the Waterloo Centre for Adult Education on Westminster Bridge Road.
Morley College has locations in North Kensington, Chelsea, and Waterloo. They offer over 2,000 courses, including visual arts, music education, and art history. It’s a great place for adult learners to explore their interests.
The Waterloo Centre is one of the oldest adult education providers in the UK. It was founded in 1889 by activist Emma Cons. Principal Bushra Iqbal shared that this centre has welcomed adult learners for over a century.
She mentioned that the investment will enhance the performance space and facilities. This will make the centre even more special for the community and its visitors.
Renovations will start this week and should wrap up by autumn 2025. The project aims to improve energy efficiency and make the building more sustainable.
They will upgrade the Emma Cons Hall, the main performance space, with better acoustics and heating. The hall is famous for its large murals by artist Martin Froy, which will also be restored.
Dr. Andrew Gower, the CEO of Morley College, emphasized that learning changes lives. He believes this investment will create lasting opportunities for future adult learners.
The funding comes from the Department for Education’s Further Education Capital Improvement Fund. A DfE spokesperson noted that Morley College serves local communities well and is committed to breaking down barriers to education.
