Devizes Town Council updates residents on the ongoing roof restoration project, highlighting its importance and progress since last October
Devizes: The Town Council is excited to share that the roof restoration project for the town hall is moving along nicely. They kicked things off last October, and it’s been a busy time since.
According to the council’s roadworks map, the work is set to continue until March 10. During this period, St Johns Street will be closed to traffic, so keep that in mind if you’re heading that way.
This project is all about preserving one of Devizes’ architectural treasures. The roof has had some issues, and water has been sneaking in, which isn’t great for the building.
It’s a big job, costing around £450,000 and taking about 20 weeks to finish. Scaffolding is up around the Grade II listed building, and the council has even given a sneak peek inside.
A spokesperson from the council said they’re thrilled with how things are going. The team is working hard under the scaffolding to make sure the roof is weather-tight and built to last.
They also expressed gratitude for the community’s support and patience during these essential improvements. It’s all about keeping this important part of Devizes in great shape for everyone.
