A man faces serious charges after allegedly attacking a nurse at Royal Oldham hospital, leaving her with life-changing injuries
Oldham: So, there’s been a pretty shocking incident at the Royal Oldham hospital. A guy named Roman Haque, 37, has been charged with trying to murder a nurse. Can you believe that?
This all went down in the hospital’s acute medical unit on Saturday night. Apparently, he attacked the nurse, Achamma Cherian, with scissors. She’s now in the hospital with some serious injuries that are said to be life-changing.
Roman had a quick hearing at the Manchester magistrates court. He didn’t even get to plead; he just confirmed his name. The judge told him he’ll be held in custody until his next court date on February 18.
It’s just heartbreaking. The hospital staff are really shaken up by this. Heather Caudle, the chief nursing officer, mentioned how shocked and saddened everyone is. They’re focusing on supporting the nurse and her family right now.
Even though this happened, the hospital is still open and running. They’re working with the police to figure out what happened. Det Supt Matt Walker said they’re doing everything they can to support everyone affected by this incident.
It’s a tough time for healthcare workers. A recent NHS survey showed that a lot of them face violence on the job. It’s just not right, and it’s something that needs to change.
