Edward Parker, 40, gets 8 weeks for theft from a Vauxhall Combo and driving while banned in Highclere.
The incident happened around 11:15 am on Thursday, July 25th. He stole a bag from the car that held dog food and £20.
Police started an investigation right away and arrested Parker soon after. He got charged with two things: theft and driving while banned.
Parker admitted he did both things. A court sentenced him to eight weeks in jail on January 30th in Basingstoke.
A police officer, Simon Denton, commented that the victim parked her car at a pretty spot but returned to a smashed window. Things inside were also gone.
Denton hopes the result sends a clear message that they take car thefts very seriously. They want offenders to face consequences, he added.
Car thefts are often easy opportunities where thieves try door handles to see if they unlock. They break windows to grab things inside easily and aren’t picky about what they steal.
People usually don’t mean to leave items in cars. The police said to please double check everything and make sure you haven’t left anything behind.
