Marc Johnson, 24, received a five-year sentence for wounding Nicolas Avenell with scissors during a drunken fight in Reading
Reading: A man named Marc Johnson, 24, faced the court for his actions. He was convicted of wounding with intent after a jury trial.
The prosecutor, Peter Pride, explained that the incident happened after a night of drinking. Johnson attacked Nicolas Avenell with scissors, injuring his chest and back.
This occurred at Johnson’s home near The Shinfield Arms on January 28, 2023. A comment about Johnson’s daughter reportedly triggered the attack.
Johnson’s lawyer, Adam Williams, mentioned that his client is working on his drinking issues. He described the attack as a moment of madness while intoxicated.
However, the judge noted that being drunk was an aggravating factor. Johnson expressed a desire to turn his life around.
The victim, Avenell, suffered from high stress and anxiety and spent two weeks in the hospital. He wanted to understand why Johnson attacked him.
Judge Amjad Nawaz stated that Johnson used scissors as a weapon. He warned Johnson that without change, he would face more trouble.
Ultimately, Johnson was sentenced to five years in prison and received a seven-year restraining order.
