Pontblyddyn: Items from the stunning Jacobean mansion, Plas Teg, are up for auction. Auctioneers Rogers Jones & Co are handling the sale, and it’s generating quite a buzz.

The money raised will help cover care costs for Cornelia Bayley, the owner, and also keep Plas Teg in good shape. The mansion is now under 24-hour security, which shows how serious the situation is.

There’s been a lot of chatter online about the future of the house, with some folks thinking the National Trust might step in. Dr. Mark Baker, an architectural historian, is clearing up the confusion. He mentioned that Cornelia has plans for the house’s future, including a will that involves the National Trust.

At 80 years old, Cornelia is facing the reality of maintaining such a large property. The roof needs fixing, and there are issues with the heating and water systems. Plus, there’s a dry rot problem that needs urgent attention.

Her son, Daniel, is helping her sort things out. Cornelia has lived in Plas Teg for 40 years and has always been a collector, filling the place to the brim. But now, it’s time for her to focus on her health.

Dr. Baker noted that while the Plas Teg Trust has received some small grants, dry rot and storm damage are major concerns. Cornelia has worked with architect Graham Holland for years, and he’s recently done a full survey of the property.

The National Trust Cymru has stated that Plas Teg is privately owned, so they can’t comment on its future. They do own some land on the estate, but that’s separate from the mansion itself.

As for the auction, items have been taken from the house, and viewings will be by appointment at a nearby warehouse. If you’re interested, you can reach out to Rogers Jones & Co for more details.
