Kidderminster: Mariantonia House on Comberton Road is closing. The CQC rated it ‘inadequate’ after inspections last year.

Inspectors found issues like potential financial abuse and poor care standards. Families praised the home and criticized the closure decision.

Shaun Parsons, who worked there for ten years, shared his frustration. His mother has lived there for over 25 years and is now stuck in the hospital.

He said the home is not as described in the CQC report. Residents love it, and the staff have always cared deeply for them.

In the report, the owner disputes the claims. Concerns included staff training and derogatory remarks in care notes.

CQC’s Craig Howard mentioned that poor leadership put residents at risk. They restricted admissions to focus on urgent improvements.

Families met with Worcestershire County Council last week. They were informed the home would close on February 6.

Parsons expressed sadness over the decision. He said families tried to explain how happy their loved ones are, but their concerns were ignored.

He highlighted the need for stability, especially for residents with special needs. The local authority couldn’t answer many questions about the closure.

Robert Savage, whose nephew lives there, praised the care provided. He believes the home should have been given more time to improve.

Emanuela Magro, the director, refuted the CQC’s claims, calling them inaccurate. She stated no families have raised concerns in 28 years.

The CQC confirmed their reports undergo a factual accuracy process. They acted after concerns about safeguarding and a closed culture.

Worcestershire County Council is working with families to find new care options. They recently met with families to discuss the upcoming changes.
