A shocking incident unfolded in a London cinema as masked men disrupted a screening, leaving patrons terrified and questioning their safety.
London: A wild scene erupted at a cinema in west London when a group of masked men barged in during a Bollywood film. They were shouting “down with India,” which really freaked out the audience.
This all went down at the Harrow Vue Cinema while folks were trying to enjoy the movie “Emergency.” One viewer, Saloni Belaid, said the men pushed past the staff and caused chaos, claiming the film was “anti-Sikh.”
Saloni described the atmosphere as chaotic and scary, with most of the audience bolting for the exits.
She mentioned that the masked men were part of the Khalistan separatist movement, which is all about creating a homeland for Sikhs. The film has been labeled “anti-Sikh,” and protests have popped up in other areas too.
In fact, viewings of the film have been canceled at Cineworld locations in Wolverhampton and Birmingham due to the unrest. Rashmi Chaubey, who shared footage of the incident, said it was terrifying to see so many masked men blocking the exits.
Despite police arriving quickly, they couldn’t do much since the group was exercising their right to protest. Rashmi felt it was a sad day when the right to protest was used to stifle free expression.
Vue Cinema and the Metropolitan Police have been reached out for comments, but the Sikh Press Association has already called the film “anti-Sikh Indian state propaganda,” raising concerns about the impact of such narratives on the Sikh community.
